Keep Your Password Fresh!

Don't make it easy for people to compromise your website's hosting account. Change your account password from time to time and make it as secure as you can - use one of these tools to get a strong, random password:

Changing your password every 90 days or so is a good minimum to shoot for, although you can change it more often if you're so inclined.

Here's how to do it in cPanel (one of the more popular hosting control panels; if you're hosting through Red Kite/NOCO Hosting, your site has cPanel):

  1. Visit http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel/
  2. Login using your username and password (you should have these on file from either your NOCO signup email or from a Red Kite Access & Logins sheet).
  3. Under Preferences near the top of the page, click Change Password.
  4. Enter your old and new passwords.
  5. Click Change Your Password Now! and you're all done.

Not changing passwords is dangerous - get in the habit of doing it every so often and your website will be safer.

How Will I Remember Yet Another Password?

The bad part about changing passwords - you have one more thing to remember.

There are a few tools designed to help you manage all those passwords - they can also help you fill out online forms.

RoboForm has been around for quite a while and has won a number of top awards for being easy-to-use for general password management. Billeo is a free tool that's focused on online transactions. And LastPass is an addon for Firefox that helps with password management.
